Grown men

"Grown men" is really a misnomer. It would be more correct to say, "Big boys."

Yesterday, my friend Paul called at 7:00 AM and asked, "do you want to play golf?" Not unusual for him to call and ask except that it was just beginning to snow. We agreed that we would play as fast as we could. Paul said, "we have to finish before it "lays down."" Just a few minutes after he hung up he was at my door and we were off.

It seemed like the snow was falling heavier on our way over to Jeremy. We both silently denied it. The first hole wasn't bad - almost like normal golf, except the ball rolled slower through the snow on the green. Second hole the same. On the third hole the fairway was covered in snow. We actually lost Paul's ball, which he had hit right down the center. I found my ball and took a practice swing and immediately the club face was thick with snow. We pressed on. On the third green, the "golf" ball actually became a little "snow" ball as it rolled along.

A young girl, playing in the snow, yelled at us, "Hey, what are you playing golf in the snow for?" Just for fun, I said to myself. Fun it was. We only made it one more hole before it became impossible to see the ball in flight and then find it once it landed. Nevertheless, we proved that two "grown men" are really just two "big boys."
